What To Expect At Your First Appointment

We do get very busy at the Practice with 6 surgeries running. We have parking available but it is limited and will be on a first come first serve basis. Please allow enough time for parking to get to your appointments on time. There is on street parking near to the practice if the car park is full.

On your arrival at the practice please report to reception and talk to one of the reception team. On your first appointment it is really helpful to arrive 15 minutes early to enable us to have time to complete all the administration.

You will be given a medical history form to complete before you meet the dentist, so you may find it useful to bring a current prescription from your doctor if you have a complex list of drugs. This helps the dentist to decide on the best sorts of treatment for you. It would also be helpful if you would bring contact details of your doctor. You can fill in the form in our waiting room and feel free to ask the reception team for any help or advice.

When it is time for your appointment, a nurse will come to the waiting room and collect you in order to escort you to the correct surgery and where you will introduced to the dental team who will be providing your care.

The dentist will examine your mouth and surrounding areas of the head and neck. Your gums and teeth and supporting tissues will be assessed in order to help the dentist to check for any existing problems and formulate a treatment plan. The dentist may decide to take digital radiographs (x-rays) to examine oral structures which aren’t easily seen in the mouth. Your consent will be obtained before any of these procedures are carried out. Here at the practice we have the latest digital imaging radiography which is designed to minimise the radiation dose to the patient. The various treatment options will be explained and you can decide which is best for you. This initial appointment usually takes between 30 – 40 minutes.

To enable the smooth running of the practice we would request that all patients give us at least 48 hours’ notice in order to change or cancel their appointment.
